Discord announced global age assurance on February 9 and it didn’t land well. I joined on February 17. People heard facial scans and ID uploads just to log in. That wasn’t happening, but it’s what everyone believed. A week after I started, the CTO published a public apology and five specific commitments to fix it.

Addressing that, along with generally reducing harm on the platform and keeping pace with regulatory compliance was half the job.

The other half was driving growth, conversion, and retention through GSEO optimization, new web surfaces, and notifications. Much of that is still work in progress and not live yet.
